You can’t make this stuff up.

Pres. Obama bowed to Saudi King Abdullah at the G20 meeting. It’s about 50 seconds in.

When did American presidents start bowing to foreign kings? I’m almost certain we fought a war to stop that practice. I’ve resisted the trend to combine the president’s name with the word amateur, but this almost begs for it — and that’s being charitable.

I have to confess that I fail to see the scandal here. I see this as nothing different from addressing the Queen as “Your Majesty.”

Look at it this way: Would Queen Elizabeth bow to King Abdullah?

Using someone’s title is courtesy; bowing is subservience. Heads of state don’t bow to one another. I’m not sure Americans should bow at all, but presidents definitely should not and historically do not.
