So you are saying that if Billy Graham was given the opportunity to speak in the Democratic Radio address and he took it then that would make him a partisan democrat. If I was given the opportunity, I am sure I would take it and I imagine I would sound a lot like Wallis. But I have never voted for a democrat since becoming a Christian. I think it is very easy for a Christian to speak in a non-partisan manner and yet resonate with the moral vision of a political party. I do not see the “joke” part. Some Christians priorities resonante more with the Democrats and some more with the republican. I would think one could speak to either moral priority. I think without being hypocritical I could taylor a speach to sound very republican and traditional or very democratic and progressive. It simply is a matter of moral priority. As Christians, we have a mandate for both.

Those who claim that Christian principles somehow drive their support of government programs designed to feed, clothe, house, or provide medical care for the ‘poor’ are ignorant of what the Bible actually has to say about these things, or don’t actually acknowledge the Bible as authoritative on the subject. NO WHERE does the Bible call for the government to take money from certain citizens by threat of force (i.e., taxes) in order to pay for these things for certain other citizens (or, in the case of illegal aliens, non-citizens who shouldn’t even be allowed to be here, much less given free medical care or education).

Doc,
Then what about the taxes to care for the poor in the OT. Do not the prophets speak to the nation of Israel’s unwillingness to care for the poor. What about jubillee? It is a totally recent idea that Christians would be disappointed about high taxes. It is very very easy to not have to pay taxes other than Social Security. If we give a significant portion of our money to the poor anyway, we really need not pay much in taxes. If you have too much to give away and you still are taxed, start a foundation.

While the radio address alone may not support the belief that Wallis is a Democratic, we all know he is. I mean, c’mon, he’s not fooling anyone. I’m not saying that’s necessarily bad, but from what I’ve read of him, he seems to be a Democratic with a handful of Republican ideals.
